1. Early Indications
During the 2nd year of full time study Fernando was eager to apply theory into practicality. He undertook the design & construction of his family residence. From hiring a sight level to do the survey himself to planning and design, approvals, working drawings to hands on working with trades. He managed the entire project of a complex 430m2 , 3 storey dwelling with a roof top terrace.
During studies Fernando was awarded first place in a design competition for a holiday development among 33 candidates.
These early strengths prompted Fernando to start his own business shortly after studies. Starting office was in Newtown (2003 - 2007), Leichhardt (2007 - 2019), currently our Sylvania office (July 2019. - present).
2. Highlight - Strickland House, Vaucluse
Most designers will have a standout project , in Fernando's case its not one of his unique designs that takes the mantle piece, its the fact that he was selected to undertake a complete redraw of the famous Government owned Strickland house in Vaucluse, including the 7 buildings on site, (This is where the movie "Australia" was filmed. )
Designed by Irish Architect John F. Hilly and built from 1830 to 1858 by William Wentworth. It is also known as Carrara; Strickland Convalescent Home for Women; Strickland House Hospital for the Aged. The brief included the intricacy of measuring every detail of the interiors of the buildings, the measure-up alone took our team 6 days to complete.
In Fernando's words "Connecting with such buildings was captivating as we mapped every detail. Seldom seen today the buildings demonstrate an Architectural and Construction achievement that should be respected.
From the basement baths to the attic, it was truly incredible that a building where no modern technology was used for construction, could be so symmetrically dimensioned in terms of centering of openings, heights, finishes at that level of intricacy.
Fernando has experience in the following development types;
1. Luxury homes (specialty)
2. Multi-Dwelling Housing
3. Dual Occupancy
4. Residential Flat Buildings
5. Alterations and Additions
6. Facade Face-lifts
7. Boarding houses
8. Mixed use developments
9. Industrial buildings
10. Commercial & retail design
